Hadestown Long Beach Theatre reviews
A hit & a miss
The evening began by walking into an oven. M’s request of no AC was a bit torturous for the audience. If had to be at least 80 degrees in there. A quarter to 11pm the show began. Production wise this is her most lackluster show. Some may argue the constraints of the theater may harness the creativity of the artist but the production was plain simple. On par with a high school drama class undertaking. This night included many monologues from Madonna. At times when she meant to be inspiring it felt ingenious. Other times it felt like a bit of a ramble. It never felt like it fully connected with the audience. The setlist felt like it could have done with an edit. 3-4 songs could have been dropped if she was going to include these long talk sessions. The new album is not her best & a little less wouldn’t hurt. Some of the older songs like Human Nature & snippet of La Isla Bonita are just straight out tired since she’s used them in the last 3 tours. A couple highlights was Frozen. It had the emotional content that was missing from most of the show. The other was the moment she past right by me & I was able to touch her hand at the end of the show. Overall, the intimate setting felt like it was not used to the best of her ability. Left me a little disappointed.
